King County Juvenile Court Mural

TeamChild opened its first office in Seattle in 1995, with support from an Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) grant and in-kind contributions from Columbia Legal Services (formerly Evergreen Legal Services) and The Defender Association. The Seattle office serves youth living in King County.

Local Highlights

  • TeamChild King County is partnering with the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration’s LEAP program by providing consultation and training to juvenile justice professionals working with youth transitioning out of detention and long-term incarceration. We are also working to raise community awareness about barriers to success for youth coming out of incarceration.
  • Our staff continues to coordinate and offer know-your-rights workshops for young women in King County’s juvenile detention center in partnership with Powerful Voices.
  • TeamChild was spotlighted in the September 2010 Equal Justice Newsletter. Read the interview with TeamChild’s Executive Director, Anne Lee, to hear her perspective on justice as it relates to children.
  • TeamChild partnered with Everyone Has A Song (EHAS) in 2006. EHAS was a music education program affiliated with Seattle Public Schools for youth who were not succeeding in traditional schools. TeamChild staff taught classes on youth rights and the youth participants applied this new knowledge as they developed their music production skills. This program is unfortunately no longer in existence, but their music lives on – sample some of the students’ tracks below!
