TeamChild in Yakima County
TeamChild’s Yakima office opened its doors to Yakima County youth in 1998 with support from state funding.
Local Highlights
- Thanks to United Way of Central Washington for supporting TeamChild Yakima in 2011-2012!
- TeamChild Yakima hosted a law clerk from New York University School of Law in the summer of 2009 who helped with community outreach efforts and developed Know Your Rights materials for youth in juvenile detention.
- Lisa Linhart-Dow has been working tirelessly on behalf of Yakima County youth since this office opened. In 2002, she received the Community Peace Award from the local YMCA for scaling the "Mountain of Peace for Yakima Valley". Lorena Navarro, Program Assistant, joined the Yakima TeamChild office in 2008 and has been an invaluable addition to the Yakima staff.
- TeamChild, the Yakima YMCA and the Seattle Children’s Museum created a Yakima Youth Voice Project in 2001 to teach youth about issues of school violence. This innovative project helped high-risk youth express their feelings through art about the causes and solutions to school violence.
