Racial Equity Education Series

3-Part Series Running March to May 2021

Your support ensures that TeamChild can continue to provide essential legal aid and advocacy for young people during the pandemic and beyond.

TeamChild launched our racial equity education series with a video that premiered on March 2nd. “Addressing Racial Equity in the Juvenile Justice System, in conversation with social justice advocate and former Seahawk Doug Baldwin, Jr.” Sonia Thomas from our Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) Institutions and Reentry Project team provided context and introduced two young people with life experience in the system who were featured with Doug Baldwin, Jr. in the video.

In Part 2 of our virtual Racial Equity Education Series hear from TeamChild and community partners including The IF Project, The People’s Assembly and Reclaiming Our Greatness as we explore “Community Solutions to Prevent Incarceration,” and connecting youth with community resources.

In Part 3 of our virtual Racial Equity Education Series, “Disrupting the School-to-Prison Pipeline,” learn why the school-to-prison pipeline exists and some strategies that community partners like South King County Discipline Coalition and Every Student Counts Alliance are using to dismantle it. You will also hear about how the pandemic has exacerbated challenges for the most marginalized students and furthered inequity.
