Marcos Martinez

Executive Director

Following my brother’s example, I participated as a teen in the East LA Support Committee for the United Farmworkers and picketed local grocery stores during the grape and lettuce boycotts of the day. My dad was active in parent groups that organized for the hiring of BIPOC teachers and administrators at the schools in our neighborhood. These experiences were formative to my thinking about social justice in my early years. In my working life, as a community radio News and then Programming Director I collaborated to bring community voices to the radio airwaves, and train community members as producers.  Moving to the Seattle area and shifting to nonprofit endeavors, I have worked alongside immigrant, LGBTQ and labor communities to build greater equity and participation with partners in government toward a broader movement for change. I am drawn to TeamChild and its work because of the fusion of direct services and the focus on policy work. I believe we should use our abilities to relieve the suffering in our communities while at the same time working to change the conditions that cause oppression.
