Our Tacoma office opened its doors in 1998 with support from Pierce County Juvenile Court and state funding. We are thankful to the many local investors who currently support our work, including local foundations, the City of Tacoma, and Pierce County!
The majority of our Pierce County clients are facing education barriers. Compared to other TeamChild offices, we historically have the highest rate of cases where special education or mental health is the primary legal issue. In 2012, we piloted a Wellness Project targeting clients who needed help accessing mental health care – we continue to focus on the behavioral health needs of our clients through local City of Tacoma partnerships. And in recent years, we’ve become more deeply involved in local efforts to address youth homelessness, including serving a growing proportion of young adults.
