About the Youth Advisory Board

TeamChild and Disability Rights Washington (DRW) have partnered to form a Youth Advisory Board, who are now building a state-wide youth power movement and guiding the future of legal support for youth in communities. The young people are 14-24 years old and have experienced barriers to education, unfair school discipline, juvenile court, foster care, homelessness, immigration and/or LGBTQIA+ and/or Black, Native/Indigenous, Person of Color identity. Members of the Youth Advisory Board live in the following counties: King, Pierce, Spokane, Thurston, and Yakima. All participants receive stipends of $20/hour with a monthly commitment for the next 9-12 months at approximately 15 hours per month.  Read the full scope of work HERE.

Connect with other young people and plan for how to better provide support for youth, especially in the area of education. In October and November, 2022 the Youth Advisory Board met with many additional young people in 5 listening sessions in our regional communities and in one statewide virtual session. These conversations will guide the creation of self-help materials and development of training that meets the needs of youth and young adults in communities throughout Washington State. Staff are there to support you at your comfort level. We want every voice to be heard, even if it is not the loudest.

Young people with lived experience, young people from Black and brown communities, young people with tribal affiliation, young people with disabilities, and young folx from the LGBTQIA+ community are particularly urged to attend.
