On May 12th TeamChild will honor Emijah Smith during a virtual celebration with our community. Emijah is a community queen. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from UW Evans School of Public Policy and Governance. She invests her time towards racial justice by eliminating racism and anti-blackness. Emijah is the founder of Colorful Communities LLC, an advocacy organization focused on strong education investments and criminal justice reform. She serves varying leadership roles at various policy tables such as Black Community Impact Alliance, Tubman Health, and Village of Hope. Emijah is most proud of her role as a mother and grandmother. Emijah is also a founding advisory member of a community partner organization of TeamChild’s – the South King County Discipline Coalition. Emijah played a crucial role in introducing TeamChild staff and board to The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond and recommended we participate in their Undoing Institutional Racism training. This early work together laid the foundation for many important changes at TeamChild. Please join us from 4:00-5:00PM on May 12th to celebrate Emijah’s work and her lasting impact on our organization and community!
