I’m a proud Filipina, South Seattle native and product of Seattle Public Schools. As a woman of color and a descendant of immigrants, laborers, activists and advocates, a deeply held value of social justice was instilled in me from a young age. This value has influenced my educational and professional trajectory. I attended the University of Washington where I studied Law, Societies and Justice and began to understand the problematic power that law and the legal system holds to privilege some and oppress others. In order to become a stronger advocate for social justice, I earned my law degree from the University of Washington. At TeamChild, I coordinate the South King County Discipline Coalition, where I have the privilege of working alongside community leaders who share a vision to end the disproportionate discipline of students of color that pushes them into the school to prison pipeline. Working with this coalition has deepened my understanding of structural and institutional racism, and helped me realize how much I love working in close relationship and collaboration with others towards a common goal that furthers social justice. When I’m not working, I’m spending time with family and Tahitian dancing!
